Amkor breaks ground in Peoria’s Innovation Core

Amkor Technology, a global leader in semiconductor packaging and testing, broke ground today, on a $7 billion advanced manufacturing campus in Peoria. This is the first business to build within Peoria’s new Innovation Core.

“This groundbreaking represents a bold step in Amkor’s long-term strategy for growth and innovation,” said Giel Rutten, Amkor’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We’re building a facility to meet our customers’ most advanced needs that will help shape the future of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. Arizona offers the right mix of talent, infrastructure, and industry presence, and we’re proud to deepen our roots here.”

The new Amkor Peoria campus will feature more than 750,000 square feet of cleanroom manufacturing space across two phases and is expected to create up to 3,000 high-quality jobs in engineering, operations, and advanced manufacturing.

“Today’s groundbreaking of Amkor’s advanced packaging and test facility is a landmark moment across our region. This project will bring thousands of quality jobs and a multibillion-dollar investment to Peoria, all while strengthening our country’s critical semiconductor supply chain,” says Peoria Mayor Jason Beck. “Through Peoria’s strong partnership with Amkor we have been able to display all that is possible when private and public industry come together to execute on a shared vision for innovation and growth.”

In August, Peoria purchased 834.5 acres of state trust land through public auction to support new industrial, commercial, and mixed-use development within the Peoria Innovation Core. Amkor is building on 104-acres of the newly acquired Core 2 property to fill a critical need in the domestic chip supply chain by bringing advanced packaging and testing back to U.S. soil. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2027, with production beginning in early 2028.

The groundbreaking ceremony coincides with the opening of SEMICON West, the country’s largest semiconductor conference hosted in Phoenix for the first time.
